Alex Blackwell
Currently, I am working as the Group Head of Facilities and Operational Management at Water Babies Group Ltd, I started my career in leisure as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the age of 16 working my way up through the ranks from Duty Manager, Operations Manager and General Manager specialising in pool lifeguard training. I then progressed to Group Lifeguarding Manager for a large leisure operator responsible for swimming pool safety, induction, training, written procedures and implementation of quality systems. After this role I worked for the RLSS UK (The Drowning Prevention Charity) as their ‘Head of Vocational Qualifications’ and was the lead author for many of their training manuals including ‘The Lifeguard’, ‘National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches’ and 'First Aid'. Whilst at the RLSS UK I also supported the development of leisure industry guidance and had input into PAS 520 and the British and European swimming pool safety guidance ‘BS EN 15288’. Currently, I continue to support the RLSS UK as their Lifeguard Advisor in a voluntary capacity and I represent Water Babies as a member on the PWTAG industry forum.
